Featured Speaker: Bethany L. Salmon, M.Ed.
Bethany Salmon joined JDRF in 2008 and currently serves as Senior Manager for the Research Business Development group.
The Research Business Development group, in collaboration with the JDRF Scientific team, establishes and fosters strategic partnerships with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies to translate academic and early stage research into meaningful products that can be delivered to people with T1D. In her role, Bethany manages these industry alliances to ensure they deliver the results expected by JDRF and its stakeholders. Bethany focuses in the area of new and advanced diabetes treatments and manages JDRF’s key Artificial Pancreas Project and metabolic control industry collaborations with companies such as Medtronic, Becton Dickinson, Tandem, Bristol-Myers Squibb/Astra Zeneca, and Animas. Additionally, Bethany oversees a major collaboration between JDRF and The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, which together has funded more than $60M in T1D research in the areas of Artificial Pancreas, Encapsulation, Prevention, and Biomarkers.
Bethany shares a very personal connection to type 1 diabetes; she was diagnosed at the age of 21 during her junior year at the University of Oklahoma. At that time, she was also co-captain of the women’s tennis team and an officer in several student organizations. Additionally, you may have seen Bethany on the cover of the JDRF Pregnancy Toolkit, as she recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
