Our Back to School Hope
At JDRF, we realize that a new school year often brings new challenges for students living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Classmates and teachers may not understand how the disease can affect your child at school, what happens when they experience high or low blood sugar levels, and what it really takes to manage diabetes day after day.
JDRF’s Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes offers a way for students and teachers at your child’s school to learn about diabetes and be a friend to kids with T1D. Our program empowers them to make a difference by raising vital funds to help cure, treat, and prevent T1D. Last year, 400,000 students across the country raised more than $4 million. This year, it is our hope to recruit more students and schools than ever before. It’s all about kids helping kids!
Will You Help Us Reach Your Child’s School?
We need your help to enroll your child’s school in the fight against T1D! School nurses, administrators, teachers, and PTOs love our program because it’s easy to implement and they receive many benefits. Contact Abby at email@example.com or 225-932-9511 for more information or if you are interested in getting your child’s school involved with JDRF and our Kids Walk program. We will send you a brochure and additional information to bring to your child’s school. Or, if you prefer, JDRF will happily reach out to your school; simply provide us with the names of the appropriate contacts.
What It’s All About
Our Kids Walk program offers free education about T1D as well as type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Through fundraising, students support diabetes research AND their school because JDRF offers 10 percent back to each school as a special thank you. On Kids Walk day, students have the chance to get some exercise, show support for those living with T1D, and celebrate their hard work!
As a family touched by T1D, you will surely appreciate the educational value of our Kids Walk Program along with the support of your entire school community. Your family Walk team can receive recognition, too!
“The JDRF Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes was a great experience for me and all the students at my school. Everyone came together to support, help, and learn more about type 1 diabetes. Most students did not know the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. By the end of the kickoff, every student knew the difference between the two diseases. Personally, I was happy that my friends and fellow classmates understood what I go through every day living with type 1 diabetes.” —Emmabella, T1D fifth grader
